Message from the Headteacher

Welcome to the William Martin Schools website. We hope you enjoy looking around our site and seeing what our school has to offer.

William Martin is one of the oldest schools in Harlow and is now the place of learning for over 470 Nursery and Primary aged children.

At William Martin we aim to provide teaching and learning that is stimulating, challenging and tailored to the needs of each individual child. We want our pupils to be enquiring learners who are able to pursue their interests, while receiving a high standard of education.  To achieve this, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom.

Supplementing the academic curriculum of English, Maths and Science we are proud to encourage the creative development of our learners through a programme of educational visits, drama and music workshops and enrichment days focused on areas of particular interest to the children.

We believe that good learning comes from good thinking. Because of this all of our teachers are trained in ‘Philosophy for Children’, a programme aimed at teaching children to think creatively, collaboratively and critically. This in turn helps with development of problem solving skills across the whole curriculum.

We also see Physical Education and sport as important parts of learning. Children have the opportunity to work with specialists on a range of different sports from table tennis to cricket. In recent years our teams, especially the football team, have done extremely well playing against our neighbouring schools.

Teamwork and respect for others is at the heart of our school. Our pupils learn to foster caring relationships and be sensitive to the needs of others.

Our children are learning to be happy, resilient, well rounded and motivated learners. Teaching and learning at our school fosters an inclusive approach to education that encourages all children to celebrate their equality, diversity and individuality.

We look forward to our children growing up into caring, considerate and thoughtful adults, with a good understanding of both Christian and British Values, ready to take their learning into the wider world.
