Sport at William Martin

In recent years William Martin Schools have seen a huge rise in clubs, sports tournaments and activities. It has been great to see so many children getting involved in all the fun!

Have a look at all the clubs we’ve been involved in.

Our Dodgeball club had a great turn out from lots of Year 5 and 6 children eager to learn a new game. We were lucky enough to take two teams to a level 2 competition and the children had a great time doing the school proud! Lots of children were left excited after a special assembly from Harlow Dodgeball Club!

Kwik Cricket

All year groups had the opportunity to take part in cricket this year and it was great to see the two teams excel at competitions at Harlow Cricket Club. Excitingly, Lydia Greenway (a double ashes winning England Cricketer!) came and ran a fantastic workshop with our girls in Year 4, 5 and 6. We look forward to seeing lots of girls in the team next year!

Our own hockey expert Miss Evans led a very popular hockey club for Year 5 and 6 children. The children learnt lots of new skills and got a chance to show them off at yet another tournament! Well done team! It has been great to see so many children buying their own sticks and looking for an outside club to join in the new season.

Tag Rugby and Sports Club

Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed learning a range of sports in a well-liked weekly club. Earlier in the year, a tag rugby team was formed and the children had fun learning a tough game and competing in a tournament.

All our girls have had the opportunity to have fun, keep fit and learn a new activity this year. It has been great to see the girls enjoying this club all year.

Indoor Athletics

Year 3 and 4 turned out in force to a new indoor athletics club. The children again shined at the tournament and did really well in lots of events. We’ve got some athletic children in this school!

Gifted and Talented Athletics

We have some great athletes in William Martin Junior School and, once we identified the best in PE lessons, they were invited to train as part of our sports club to stretch them even further. Good luck at District Sports, team!

Change 4 Life

Specially invited children had the opportunity to continue the Olympic legacy in an exciting new club which involves creating new games as well as enjoying the old ones! Well done to all the children involved and remember to keep being active!

In the Infant School we have for the first time started after school sports clubs for Years 1 and 2. These clubs will extend the work done by our specialist PE teachers during the week working on games, gym, athletics and dance.

The infants are also continuing their Table Tennis Club for Year 2, again complementing the learning on Monday afternoons.

The Infants have just started a morning Multi-Sports Club before school. This club will work on developing skills for games and other areas of PE.

Children in the Early Years have less structured PE lessons but spend a higher proportion of their time in active play both inside and outside of the classroom.

Bronze Kitemark Award

Due to the efforts and enthusiasm of our staff and children, our Junior School was awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Bronze Kitemark Award! Well done to everyone who helped this happen!

Keep working hard so we can get our silver award!
